Religious Studies and Citizenship
*Updates on our Religious Education offer coming soon!*
Our RE curriculum recognises that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, whilst taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain.
Students have 1 RE lesson a fortnight in Years 7-10, these lessons aim to:
- Develop students knowledge of the six major religions, developing their awareness and understanding of the religious belief and practice, their traditions and challenges.
- Encourage students to discuss challenging questions and develop respect and sensitivity to others
- Prepare students for life in Britain, giving them a sense of identity, purpose and belonging
- Connect their learning to world events, students are challenged to critically evaluate issues.
Right of withdrawal:
Parents (or students who are over 18) have the right to withdraw their children either partly or wholly from RE. In addition, teachers have the right not to teach the subject. Our approach to RE, however, has been constructed in the hope that parents and teachers will rarely, if ever, wish to exercise their right of withdrawal.
