Photography Learning Journey

Our Photography philosophy @ SHS

Photography is the perfect combination of creativity and IT. We teach students to view the world differently and allow them to be creative.

We learn team skills working in groups during photoshoots. We learn independent study and research skills because students can develop their own ideas in each project.

Photography helps students develop IT skills using digital cameras, editing on the computer and recording work in a PowerPoint. Students learn transferable visual communication skills that will help them in the future.

Key Stage 4

The GCSE Photography qualification provides scope for innovation and curriculum development. It offers opportunities for students to study creatively & independently.

With two components, comprising a ‘Digital Portfolio’ selected from the course of study and an ‘Externally set assignment’, the specification provides students with a range of creative, exciting and stimulating opportunities to develop and explore their personal interests in Digital Photography.

GCSE Photography builds on the strong foundation skills learnt in KS3 Art lessons & allows for progression for further study at AS and A-level as well as vocational pathways. To support this progression, the assessment objectives, structure and titles are very similar to the KS3 courses, to allow for easy transition onto a higher-level.
